Medical device company Pristine Surgical has announced the first use of its 4K single-use surgical arthroscope, dubbed Summit.
The first-in-human procedure using Summit has been carried out by shoulder and knee arthroscopy expert Dr Mark Getelman at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) in the US.
In a statement, Getelman said: “The ability to get a new 4K scope for every procedure while improving our workflow makes Summit an exciting product for our operating room.
“We’re proud to have performed this procedure at SCOI where surgical innovation has been a hallmark of our practice since our founding.”
Claimed to be a first-of-its-kind 4K single-use surgical arthroscope, Summit is designed to address the difficulties that come with traditional surgical visualisation.
The device comes in packaging that is sterile and designed for single use. It is easy to set up and enhances predictability and workflow.

Pristine Surgical president and CEO Bryan Lord said: “This first-in-human procedure with Dr Getelman marks the beginning of our commercial release, where we will begin the process of rolling out Summit to ASCs across the US and eventually worldwide.
“Dr Getelman and other SCOI surgeons have been instrumental in providing feedback on our development and set a high bar for our scope’s performance.”
In January this year, the company received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for the Summit 4K single-use surgical arthroscope.
