Mediso Medical Imaging Systems (Mediso) has deployed the nanoScan 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system at the University of Milano-Bicocca in Milan, Italy.
The new MRI system is integrated with an advanced cryogen-free superconducting magnet and the deployment of this system marks the installation of the first nanoScan MRI system in the country.
University of Milano-Bicocca’s medicine and surgery department Professor Rosa Maria Moresco said: “The preclinical research groups of the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milano-Bicocca are very pleased to include in the imaging facilities the nanoScan7T preclinical MRI scanner.
“With the system, we will implement novel in vivo diagnostic procedures and better characterise the preclinical models of diseases under development based on established imaging features derived from clinical knowledge.”
Featuring an ultra-high magnetic field, coupled with low-noise gradients, the 7T system facilitates advanced in vivo applications, such as diffusion tensor imaging and MR spectroscopy with a better signal-to-noise ratio.
The pulse tube-type cryocooler positioned behind the scanner reduces vibrations inside the cryostat and ensures the production of clear echo planar imaging without any ghosting.

By GlobalDataMediso preclinical product development director Gergő Bagaméry said: “Combining the ultra-high field of 7T with a magnet that has very low installation and maintenance requirements will allow researchers not to compromise their image quality and quantitation accuracy due to limitations of lab space.”
