Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 17%, emerged as the top future of work-related job roles within the medical industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings drop by 21% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 11% in Q2 2024, with new job postings dropping by 4% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent future of work roles include Management Occupations with a 10% share in Q2 2024, Production Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in medical industry accounted for 20% of hiring activity
The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were Thermo Fisher Scientific, Danaher, Baxter International, Medtronic, and athenahealth. Together they accounted for a combined share of 20% of all future of work-related new jobs in the medical industry.
Thermo Fisher Scientific posted 785 future of work-related new jobs in Q2 2024, Danaher 468 jobs, Baxter International 413 jobs, Medtronic 365 jobs, and athenahealth 363 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 61.91% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024
The largest share of future of work-related new job postings in the medical industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 61.91% followed by India (9.68%) and Germany (6.87%). The share represented by the US was two percentage points higher than the 59.86% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
