Heraeus Medical Components has opened a new manufacturing facility at La Lima Free Zone and Business Park in Cartago, Costa Rica.
The new 5400m2 facility replaces the company’s previous location in San Jose. It will supply advanced component and sub-assembly solutions to medical device companies in Costa Rica as well as the US.
It will primarily focus on critical access and delivery tools designed to facilitate accurate treatment of various cardiac and vascular procedures.
The Heraeus Costa Rica is intended to support the firm’s finished devices business through the production of a variety of devices such as cardiovascular access guidewires and catheters.
The Cartago facility is designed to double the firm’s manufacturing for future expansion and is anticipated to produce more than two million cardiovascular access guidewires and additional interventional medical device products this year.
Heraeus also tripled its workforce in the country to over 160 employees and is planning to double this figure by 2020.

“In addition, in this specific case, the impulse to attract investment in provinces is fulfilled, which, like Cartago, has enormous potential to generate employment and well-being in specialised areas such as medical devices and technology.”
