Medline Industries has closed the acquisition of Ecolab’s global surgical solutions business, for a total cash consideration of approximately $950m.
The acquisition, which includes the Microtek product lines, is aligned with Medline’s strategic growth objectives.
The move comes after the companies announced a definitive agreement in April 2024 for the acquisition.
As part of the agreement, Medline acquired Ecolab’s surgical solutions business operations, products, and team.
Medline said the acquisition improves its capabilities, bringing quality products, innovation, and expanded service offerings.
Medline president and chief operating officer Jim Pigott said: “We are thrilled to officially welcome the nearly 3,500 Microtek surgical solutions business team members to the Medline family.

By GlobalData“Our surgical solutions business is poised for a bright future as we continue to provide exceptional service and innovative solutions to our customers. With this acquisition, we are eager to collaborate with healthcare providers and cutting-edge medical device companies to bring innovative solutions to the surgical suite.”
The surgical products, advanced sterile drape solutions and OEM capabilities are expected to strengthen Medline’s portfolio.
Ecolab plans to use the proceeds from the sale, together with its balance sheet, to invest in ‘attractive growth opportunities’.
In a press statement, Ecolab said: “Ecolab will continue to serve hospitals through its infection prevention and instrument reprocessing businesses.
“Infection prevention provides environmental hygiene programmes to reduce hospital-acquired infections. Instrument reprocessing provides cleaning and sterilisation solutions for instruments, which fits well with Ecolab’s growth model as it combines a technological anchor with proprietary consumables and service.”
