Nonprofit healthcare system Sutter Health has announced a seven-year Care Alliance with GE HealthCare, a medical technology and digital solutions provider, with the goal of improving access to diagnostic imaging services across California, US.

This long-term partnership will enhance access to vital diagnostic care throughout the state, offering patients advanced technology within their communities.

It aims to streamline appointment scheduling, accelerate diagnostic imaging results, enable earlier diagnoses, and provide more convenient, consistent, and timely care.

One of GE HealthCare’s largest strategic partnerships to date, The Care Alliance aims to enhance the patient and clinician experience through a more coordinated approach.

Currently serving nearly 3.5 million patients, Sutter Health’s collaboration with GE HealthCare will focus on optimising technology and service delivery, advancing service line care, and integrating digital solutions.

Sutter Health president and CEO Warner Thomas said: “This strategic partnership is rooted in our commitment to providing innovative, high-calibre care to our 3.5 million patients across Northern California and the Central Coast.

“We’re responding to what we’ve heard from our physicians and making comprehensive upgrades with the latest technology to boost our capacity and expand access points.”

The primary focus of the Care Alliance is an accelerated technology program within the Sutter Health system, which will introduce some of the most advanced AI-powered imaging technologies and digital solutions for patients.

GE HealthCare’s solutions in interventional, mammography, diagnostic cardiology, maternal and infant care, and anaesthesia will also be integrated into Sutter Health’s ambulatory care centres, helping to meet the increasing demand for care outside of traditional hospital settings.

This extensive technology refresh spans GE HealthCare’s entire portfolio of solutions, equipping clinicians with “innovative” tools to better meet evolving patient needs with greater efficiency and speed.

GE HealthCare president and US and Canada CEO Catherine Estrampes said: “We are committed to supporting Sutter Health in its mission and have deep respect for their openness to a collaboration that meets the heart of their needs.

“This Care Alliance is a customised, clinician-focused approach aligned with our shared goals. It was jointly designed with expert assessment of how we provide our latest imaging technology in the right settings to serve patients most efficiently throughout their care journey, closer to home.”

The partnership will also see the implementation of imaging and ultrasound solutions such as GE HealthCare’s Omni Legend PET/CT, StarGuide SPECT/CT, and Vscan Air SL ultrasound with Caption AI software.

GE HealthCare’s AIR Recon DL MR image reconstruction, which uses deep learning algorithms to enhance MRI image quality and reduce scan times, will be deployed system-wide.

Furthermore, the Care Alliance supports Sutter Health’s strategy to increase access by opening new care sites and expanding advanced service lines in areas such as heart and vascular care, cancer care, and neurosciences.

The health system plans to build a new cancer centre and has announced two new campuses in Silicon Valley, with the potential to enhance services in mental health, orthopaedics, women’s health, and paediatrics.
