Orthopaedics company Orthofix Medical has announced the full commercial introduction of the new Mariner Deformity Pedicle Screw System.
The first patient cases with the new Mariner system were reported at the same time.
The Mariner system, which is the first product introduced since the merger of Orthofix and SeaSpine earlier this month, is based on the strength of the foundational Mariner Pedicle Screw System.
The commercial launch of the system is said to add advanced reduction and correction instrumentation, along with specialised implant technologies and osteotomy tools, for better surgical intervention.
SeaSpine Global Spinal Systems senior vice-president Dennis Cirino said: “The Mariner Deformity System represents an innovative collaboration between surgical minds and a cutting-edge product development team.
“Combined with our market-leading biologics and 7D FLASHnavigation with machine vision accuracy and segmental registration, this system is designed to deliver a full solution that meets clinical needs and advances the modular platform of the Mariner family.”

By GlobalDataIntegrating the strength of Mariner’s modular technology, the system helps reduce the number of surgical trays associated with deformity surgery.
It will help improve workflow, remove operating room clutter and decrease sterile processing costs in hospitals.
The system also extends the differentiated capabilities of the new gimbal technology, which is integrated into the Mariner family of products to support the placement of complex instrumentation.
Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian neurosurgeon Dr Pawel Jankowski said: “The Mariner Deformity System has benefitted from both ergonomic refinement and strategic product differentiation.
“The team has done a tremendous job in creating an inspired, comprehensive complex adult correction platform.”
