Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations, with a share of 33% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the North American medical industry in Q2 2024 , ahead of Management Occupations with a 10% share of new job postings.

The other prominent roles included Production Occupations with a 6% share in Q2 2024, Healthcare Support Occupations with a 5% share and Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies accounted for 48% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined 48% of the overall hiring activity in the North American medical industry in Q2 2024.

TotalMed Systems posted 34,544 jobs in Q2 2024 and registered a growth of 48% over the previous quarter, followed by Laboratory Corp of America Holdings with 4,994 jobs and a 2% growth. Thermo Fisher Scientific, with 2,380 jobs, and Quest Diagnostics, with 2,324 jobs, recorded a 4% rise and an 11% rise, respectively, while Avanos Medical recorded a 17% decline with a 2,273 new job postings during Q2 2024.

Regional analysis of hiring in the North American medical industry, Q2 2024

The US held the leading share of the North American medical hiring activity with a 97.35% share, a 13% increase over Q1 2024. Mexico was next with 1.40%, four-percentage-point down over the previous quarter.
