A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230172697A1) describes a mounting device for dental prostheses that can be temporarily connected to an unfinished dental prosthesis body during the processing of the prosthesis. The mounting device consists of a lower base part and an upper connecting part, with the connecting part designed to be connected to the void volume of the dental prosthesis body. The connecting part is made of a porous material with a porous content ranging from 15% to 75% by volume and a thermal conductivity between 0.05 W/mK and 0.75 W/mK at 800°C.

The porous material used in the mounting device includes SiO2 and Al2O3, with the SiO2 content ranging from 10% to 50% by weight and the Al2O3 content ranging from 10% to 90% by weight. The sum of the SiO2 and Al2O3 content is at least 50% by weight. The porous material has a loss of ignition between 0% and 8% by weight and a density between 250 kg/m3 and 1300 kg/m3.

The mounting device can be used in a system with a dental prosthesis, where the connecting part of the mounting device has an inner attachment part and an outer supporting part. The inner attachment part extends into the void volume of the dental prosthesis body, while the outer supporting part matches the lower circumferential contour line of the dental prosthesis body. The length difference between the lower contour line of the dental prosthesis body and the outer supporting part of the connecting part is no more than 10% of the length of the dental prosthesis body's lower circumferential contour line. The attachment part surface is contoured to partially contact the inner surface of the dental prosthesis body, with the void volume between the attachment part surface and the dental prosthesis body's inner surface after attachment of the mounting device being no more than 10% of the void volume of the dental prosthesis body.

The patent also describes a process for automated processing of a dental prosthesis using the mounting device. The dental prosthesis is temporarily brought into contact with the mounting device during a coating process, such as a glazing process. The dental prosthesis can be a crown, bridge, multi-unit bridge, or a combination thereof.

In summary, the patent presents a mounting device for dental prostheses that allows for temporary connection to an unfinished prosthesis during processing. The device is made of a porous material with specific properties, and it can be used in a system with a dental prosthesis for automated processing.
