A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11998402B2) discloses a non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions for a surgical robotic system. These instructions, when executed by the system's processor, enable the system to receive operator input regarding the desired offset between the center of the camera's field of view and a reference point on at least one surgical tool. The system then receives an alignment signal based on the tool's location information within the body cavity frame of reference, causing the camera to move and capture images of the tool for display to the operator during the medical procedure.

Furthermore, the patent details additional functionalities such as causing movement of the surgical tool within the body cavity based on kinematic calculations, determining the actual location of the tool within the body cavity frame of reference, and enabling simultaneous movement of the tool and camera. The system can also detect the activation of a camera align control by the operator through various input devices like finger or foot-actuated switches. Additionally, the processor can analyze patterns of movement of the tool or end effector to determine the alignment signal reception, ensuring accurate positioning of the camera within the body cavity frame of reference for optimal visualization during the surgical procedure.
