Catalyst OrthoScience has unveiled its imaging software, Archer 3D Targeting, which can aid in preoperative planning for shoulder arthroplasty.
Licensed in collaboration with a 3D-Side subsidiary, namely 3D-Shoulder, the software uses years of shoulder data to provide surgeons with insights on individual patient’s pathology, allowing them to develop a surgical plan ahead of operations.
Archer 3D Targeting leverages a two-dimensional (2D) image such as computerised tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), required by nearly all patients before a shoulder arthroplasty.
After the surgeon uploads the imaging, a plan which has suggestions on the best approach to implant a device is generated.
Furthermore, doctors can assess and amend the plan as required prior to finalisation.
Catalyst OrthoScience chairman and CEO Brian Hutchison said: “We’re excited to launch Archer 3D Targeting and offer a valuable tool to surgeons who prefer to make preoperative plans, particularly as they address more complicated pathologies.

By GlobalData“Our focus remains on the shoulder – and staying ahead of the preferences of the surgeons we serve. Offering image software is the latest step in providing a comprehensive and innovative set of solutions for shoulder arthroplasty.”
Established in 2014, the company aims to facilitate minimally invasive and efficient shoulder surgery, enhancing the experience for both doctors and patients.
Apart from Archer 3D Targeting, Catalyst offers Archer CSR Total Shoulder System and the Archer R1 Reverse Shoulder System.
The Archer CSR system delivers accuracy in shoulder restoration without any impact on the bone and soft tissue of the patient.
The single-tray, bone-preserving total shoulder arthroplasty system has a precision elliptical humeral head and minimally invasive glenoid component, which uses instrumentation that offers reliable anatomic joint line restoration and glenoid insertion.
Meanwhile, the single-tray arthroplasty Archer R1 system, which was launched in March, enables surgeon-directed implant placement, with a simplified and adaptable system that includes bone sparing implants.
