DeepHealth and HOPPR have entered a partnership to commercialise a medical-grade generalised foundation model – a form of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) – that will support the development of fine-tuned models for cancer detection.

Foundation models are pre-trained architectures that represent the initial step in creating fine-tuned AI models for more specific tasks.

Once the commercialised foundation model is created, it will facilitate the companies’ plans to create fine-tuned models that will use GenAI for the detection of breast, prostate, and lung cancer.

HOPPR’s foundation model for medical imaging, Grace, was launched in November 2023. It is powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and is said to be a first-of-its-kind B2B foundation model enabling image-to-image and text-to-image learning across all medical imaging modalities.

DeepHealth said a key aim of the partnership is to enhance its existing AI-powered health informatics portfolio.

Earlier this year, DeepHealth teamed up with French AI company Incepto to expand access to its AI-radiology software.

In 2020, DeepHealth’s parent company RadNet entered a comparable partnership with diagnostics developer Hologic for the development of AI-based tools to identify breast cancer with increased accuracy by using Hologic’s 3DQuorum and Genius 3D imaging technology.
