GE HealthCare and Nuffield Health have entered a £200m ($246.6m) deal to bolster diagnostic imaging services across Nuffield Health’s hospitals in the UK.

Leveraging AI-enabled systems, the partnership aims to address key healthcare challenges and promote sustainable healthcare practices.

Under the 20-year managed equipment service (MES) agreement, GE HealthCare will assume responsibility for the installation, acquisition, maintenance and training related to medical technology used at Nuffield Health’s facilities.

The partnership will see the delivery of more than 100 devices to Nuffield Health’s hospitals this year, with approximately 800 pieces of equipment anticipated to be delivered throughout the tenure of the deal.

The equipment will span various medical technologies, including ultrasound, surgery, X-ray systems, and imaging.

Nuffield Health will gain access to GE HealthCare’s AI systems, which aim to assist clinicians in delivering quicker and more precise diagnoses, thereby providing patients with timely critical information.

GE HealthCare Northern & Eastern Europe Zone president Simon McGuire said: “We look forward to supporting Nuffield Health with advanced imaging technologies and solutions to assist their clinical teams in providing exceptional care and enhancing outcomes to meet the growing patient demand.

“This long-term collaboration is a major milestone for GE HealthCare in the UK’s independent sector, built on a customised approach to address the needs and goals of Nuffield Health and one that is aligned to GE HealthCare’s strategy of working closely with our customers as a strategic adviser and partner to help solve health system challenges.”

Nuffield Health also worked with GE HealthCare’s Healthcare Financial Services team on technology budgeting, financing, planning, and risk sharing.

The latest partnership builds upon a previous multi-vendor servicing agreement signed in 2017 under which GE HealthCare managed Nuffield Health’s technology asset portfolio.

This collaboration announcement comes after GE HealthCare and the University of California, San Francisco’s radiology and biomedical imaging department launched a research initiative for medical imaging, known as the ‘Care Innovation Hub’.
