HKSH Medical Group has opened a new proton therapy centre at the HKSH Eastern Medical Centre in A Kung Ngam, Shau Kei Wan, Hong Kong.
The new centre features an advanced proton therapy system and two modern treatment rooms.
The system includes two half-rotating proton therapy gantries, the latest beam transport system and a synchrotron-based accelerator.
It is arranged in a vertically stacked format, which makes it suitable for crowded urban spaces, such as Hong Kong.
Since starting operations in July 2023, the centre has administered proton therapy to approximately 40 cancer patients, ranging in age from seven to 88 years.
These cases include various cancer types such as 26 cases of breast cancer and six paediatric cancer cases, with the remaining cases involving head and neck, prostate, thorax, and craniospinal cancers.
