Identiv and Novanta have formed a business development and marketing collaboration to enhance the adoption of radio frequency identification (RFID)-enabled solutions for medical device original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
The initial focus of this strategic collaboration is to market these solutions for OEMs in the medical device and life sciences sectors.
The RFID solutions can be integrated into advanced diagnostics, smart medical devices and wearable devices to enhance the performance of the product, make sure of “proper” assembly, and improve the safety of the patients.
The partnership combines Identiv’s RFID tags, labels and inlays with Novanta’s APIs and ThingMagic reader modules.
This integration will create end-to-end solutions for access, detection and traceability, offering better performance, stated the company.
The goal is to streamline the development process and product integration for manufacturers of medical devices, ultimately decreasing complexity and expediting time to market.
Identiv CEO Kirsten Newquist said: “This collaboration with Novanta will facilitate the adoption of RFID technology in critical medical device applications.
“By collaborating with Novanta to integrate our leading-edge RFID devices with their trusted reader technology, we are enabling innovative manufacturers to incorporate intelligence and performance, ensuring patient safety.”
Anticipated to yield an “optimised” ecosystem, the collaboration claims to simplify the RFID solutions’ assessment and implementation, addressing the challenges and supporting the advancement of medical technology.
Identiv claims to develop digital identities for physical objects through its “full-circle” RFID-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.
Novanta supplies core technology solutions that offer a “competitive advantage” to medical, life science and industrial OEMs.
The company’s “expertise” spans robotics and automation, precision and manufacturing, and surgery.
