Johnson & Johnson (J&J) MedTech has launched the Dualto Energy System, an electrosurgical generator that unites various energy modalities into an “integrated” platform for both open and minimally invasive surgery.

The solution is designed for future compatibility with the company’s Ottava Robotic Surgical System and can be paired with Service Solutions for uptime support.

It is also tailored to work with the Polyphonic Fleet software application for managing devices.

The Dualto Energy System provides clinical teams the flexibility to use ultrasonic, monopolar, bipolar, and advanced bipolar instruments, which also include Enseal and Harmonic devices, from a “consolidated” system.

Its flexible architecture and modular design claim to reduce the required space by up to 46% compared to separate generators.

According to the company, this system is also the first to offer a double configuration, enabling two surgeons to activate energy from a single electrosurgical unit during complex procedures.

Utilising Adaptive Tissue Technology, the system responds to changes in tissue conditions, regulating the delivery of energy for enhanced temperature management.

This technology offers user signals as well as tone changes for energy delivery.

J&J MedTech noted that the Dualto-powered Harmonic 700 and Harmonic Focus+ instruments show “efficiency”, and “transecting” thick tissue up to 18% and 25%, quicker, respectively.

Dualto’s design includes a touchscreen interface with guided setup, clear visual and auditory cues, and streamlined workflows for the operating room (OR).

It allows for the storage of personalised profiles for various procedures and surgeons, facilitating quicker setup and custom energy settings adjustments, stated the company.

J&J MedTech surgery company group chairman Hani Abouhalka said: “J&J MedTech has been a trusted partner in surgery for over a century, and we are leveraging clinical insights to tailor the design of our technologies to meet the needs of surgeons and clinical teams.

“Dualto supports a more flexible and digitally connected OR ecosystem for the future of surgical care.”

J&J MedTech company recently gained 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Dualto Energy System.

Earlier this year, its Dual Energy Thermocool Smarttouch SF Catheter received the European CE mark approval for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
