Kentucky, US-based LogicMark (formerly NXT-ID), a provider of personal emergency response systems (PERS), has launched Freedom Alert Max, a new fall detection and patient monitoring device intended to support vulnerable seniors living independent lives.

Incorporating a fall detection alert system and 4G cellular tech into one system, LogicMark’s device senses falls and sudden movements and can call for help even if a user is unable to speak or interact with the device. To mitigate false positives, an algorithm within the device can learn patterns and use this information to predict when future falls are likely to occur.

Freedom Alert Max also features Global Positioning System (GPS) location technology and geofencing to allow caregivers to set a map boundary – with the device able to send alert notifications when the device crosses those areas – to address concerns around those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia who may wander off.

According to LogicMark, the device is also the first on the market with emergency video for caregivers to assess if a fall has occurred and to determine a user’s wellbeing – a feature that is facilitated through Caring Village’s senior support mobile app

LogicMark CEO Chia-Lin Simmons said that ageing, yet still active populations deserve access to technology that empowers them to be independent and noted that requiring ageing adults to keep up with and charge multiple devices to feel safe can prove unmanageable.

“It’s also critical for them to receive help within the first hour of a fall or another emergency to decrease any potential negative effects on their physical or mental well-being,” said Simmons.
