3D Systems has signed an agreement to purchase Contex Group subsidiaries Vidar Systems and Z Corporation for $137m.
The acquisition, which is subject to customary closing conditions as well as regulatory approvals, is likely to close by early 2012 at the latest.
Vidar Systems global president Joseph LaPorta said that by joining 3D Systems, the company expects expand its core imaging business.
"Together with 3D’s strong footprint into healthcare – medical models, surgical guides, hearing aides, dental applications and implantable devices – Vidar expects to develop applications and products that enhance our current offering as well as to move into more elaborate healthcare initiatives," LaPorta said.
