Codman Neuro, a part of DePuy Synthes companies of Johnson & Johnson, has introduced new Spetzler Malis dual irrigating disposable non-stick bipolar forceps for use in neurosurgery.
The new single-use device can be used in electrosurgery for coagulation and irrigation of tissue.
Irrigation is used to flush and cool target tissue and allow the surgical field of vision to remain clear during electrosurgery.
The new disposable device incorporates irrigation channels inside its branches and offers precise delivery of fluid through each forceps tip, for improved and uninterrupted visualisation.
Barrow Neurological Institute director Robert Spetzler said: "The dual irrigation design is ideal for working with arteriovenous malformations and vascular tumours as they keep the tips and vessels moist enhancing their non-stick properties, and the transparent fine tubing provides better visualisation.
"The Spetzler Malis disposable bipolar forceps line has been designed to be non-stick, low profile, and provide great tactile feedback."

Isocool bipolar forceps, also developed by the company is used for procedures requiring critically precise temperature control to reduce sticking and charring while coagulating.
The company develops devices for hydrocephalus management, neuro intensive care and cranial surgery. It offers aneurysm coils, vascular reconstruction devices and technologies used in the endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms and stroke.
