Freudenberg Medical’s joint venture (JV) VistaMed has expanded its catheter manufacturing facility located at Carrick-on-Shannon in Ireland.
The €9m expansion to the existing structure has extended the facility by 45,000ft², including four Class 7 cleanrooms intended for contract manufacturing of catheter-based minimally invasive devices.
VistaMed operates a total of five product development and manufacturing locations in the US, Costa Rica, and Ireland, and is part of Freudenberg Medical’s Minimally Invasive Solutions unit.
The JV is involved in catheter development and assembly services, complex extrusions, and minimally invasive device segments.
VistaMed managing director Patrick Mulholland said: “This latest expansion is in response to the strong demand that VistaMed is experiencing for its products and services.
“The growth we have experienced over the last few years would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the VistaMed team and our partnership with Freudenberg Medical.”
The firm’s solutions cover multiple categories such as neurology and neurovascular, ophthalmology, ENT, pulmonary, structural heart, and cardiovascular. It also provides products for gastroenterology and endoscopy applications, bariatric surgery, endovascular therapies and in-vitro diagnostics.
Freudenberg Medical’s catheter services include design and development, prototyping, material and component selection, balloon forming, annealing, tip-forming, fusing, and adhesive bonding.
