
Philips has received the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) certificate for its vendor-agnostic Radiology Operations Command Center Console, an imaging solution that offers remote scanning capabilities.
This marks an advancement in diagnostic imaging accessibility for European patients, allowing radiologists to help technologists in real-time, remotely controlling scans to obtain “high” quality images.
The multi-modality imaging solution can be utilised with multiple vendor magnetic resonance (MR), computed tomography (CT), and PET-CT.
It facilitates seamless connections between imaging “experts” in a command centre and technologists at scanning sites within an organisation, stated the company.
Radiology Operations Command Center features an “intuitive” user interface, and a private and secure architecture, among others.
Philips noted that a pilot study conducted at Imperial College Healthcare National Health Service (NHS) Trust in London, UK, showed a 9% increase in total scanning throughput due to decreased scan times and a zero exam recall rate.
Without compromising privacy or security, the remote scanning capabilities will enable users to edit scanner consoles in real-time from any area, offering “on-demand” chat, video, and voice partnerships.
Philips Enterprise Informatics business leader Shez Partovi said: “Healthcare providers are increasingly confronted with the challenge of not having enough skilled technologists to meet the demand for patient imaging exams, particularly for more complex exams such as cardiac MR.
“With Radiology Operations Command Center Console’s remote scanning capability, we are further empowering clinicians to deliver the timely diagnosis that patients deserve and helping to deliver better care for more patients.”
Earlier this month, Philips entered a partnership with Myocardial Solutions to progress AI-driven cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This collaboration aims to improve the early identification of heart disease in cancer patients and survivors.
