DuPont is collaborating with STMicroelectronics to develop a smart wearable device designed for remote biosignal monitoring.

The DuPont Liveo smart biosensing patch allows healthcare professionals to monitor various vital signs such as electrical and mechanical heart activity, without traditional monitoring equipment.

ST designed the electronics and sensors for the patch, including accelerometers and analogue front-end sensors with in-sensor artificial intelligence (AI), microcontrollers, Bluetooth modules and algorithms.

DuPont plans to demonstrate the biosensing patch prototype at the MEDICA Trade Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany, taking place from 13 to 16 November.

The patch also utilises Liveo soft skin conducting tape 1-3150, a silicone-based thermoset adhesive with electrically conductive properties used as a skin electrode for biosignal monitoring.

DuPont Liveo global business leader Eugenio Toccalino said: “Dedicated Liveo research teams collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers worldwide to create solutions across a vast array of medical applications – including smart devices that can share data between patients and doctors.

"The wearable device concept that resulted from the collaboration between DuPont and ST is the DuPont Liveo Smart Biosensing Patch prototype, which employs multifunctional microsensors and control electronics from ST embedded in a flexible patch design from DuPont."

In October 2023, DuPont launched a high-adhesion, low-cyclic silicone soft skin adhesive (SSA) called DuPont Liveo MG 7-9960. The adhesive is developed to be used for advanced wound care dressings and adhering medical devices to the skin for extended wear time.

In May this year, DuPont signed a definitive agreement to acquire speciality medical device maker Spectrum Plastics Group from AEA Investors for $1.75bn.

According to GlobalData thematic research, the remote patient monitoring (RPM) market will reach $760m by 2030.
