GE HealthCare has announced the integration of Caption AI technology with Vscan Air SL wireless handheld ultrasound system, aimed at improving cardiac assessments at the point of care.
This new feature is set to provide clinicians with real-time guidance for capturing diagnostic-quality images and automated ejection fraction estimation, which is crucial for informed clinical decision-making in cardiac settings.
The Vscan Air SL with Caption AI will make its debut at the 2024 American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Session & Expo in Atlanta, between 6 and 8 April.
The integration of Caption AI technology into the Vscan Air SL system is in response to the challenges posed by cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of death worldwide.
With the anticipated rise in CVD prevalence, early detection is essential for improving patient outcomes.
The Vscan Air SL with Caption AI is designed to simplify the process of capturing cardiac images, enabling healthcare professionals, including those with limited ultrasound experience, to conduct quick cardiac assessments.
The Caption AI software provides real-time visual guidance and a quality meter to assist users in obtaining optimal images.
Additionally, the AutoEF feature automatically calculates the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).
The Vscan Air SL device itself is noted for its portability and imaging capabilities, featuring single-crystal transducer technology that delivers high levels of resolution, depth and sensitivity.
GE HealthCare ultrasound president and CEO Roland Rott said: “The integration of Caption AI with the Vscan Air SL handheld ultrasound opens an entirely new chapter for cardiac screening. This technology empowers users with guidance and tools for high-quality ultrasound scans and supports earlier detection of cardiac disease.
“The strategic acquisition of Caption Health in 2023 continues to expand the capabilities of our products and solidifies our leadership in ultrasound and the emerging artificial intelligence landscape.”
Last month, GE HealthCare launched Prostate Volume Assist (PVA), an AI software feature aimed at enhancing urological imaging and treatment.
