Intelligent Scopes develops AI tool for colon cancer detection

The Helga AI-GEP tool can detect lesions and tissue irregularities in the colon and the upper gastrointestinal tract.

Intelligent Scopes (ISC) has developed an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) platform for gastroenterology, named Helga AI-GEP, for the detection of colon cancer.

The platform is designed for providing computer-aided devices to detect, classify, and characterise lesions and tissue irregularities in the colon and the upper gastrointestinal tract.

The company is now commencing validation with its Helga iCAP AI software tool to detect colonic conditions.

In addition to identifying polyps and adenomas, the tool can help endoscopists delineate the condition and classify it into sub-types of polyps (hyperplastic and inflammatory) and adenomas (sessile, serrated, tubular and villous).

By partnering with clinicians, academia, and equipment manufacturers, Intelligent Scopes will create tools that help endoscopists enhance patient care.

The commercial launch of Intelligent Scopes' services is anticipated following regulatory approvals, with a target set for the second half of 2024.

Intelligent Scopes incoming CEO Dr Rajesh Nair said: “At ISC, we dedicate ourselves to continuous research and development, to bring to market solutions that improve patient care and aid clinicians in their workflow.

“The Helga AI-GEP platform offers AI tools in cancer diagnostics for colorectal and upper GI tract diseases, is versatile and adaptable, agnostic to hardware types and systems, allowing for ease of integration.

“Whilst Helga AI-GEP aims to aid the clinicians in diagnosis and detection, we continue our R&D in the field of robotic surgery and work through tangible solutions that can be integrated into existing robotic systems to provide higher accuracy, reduce procedure time, and overall, improve the patient's care.”

Intelligent Scopes is engaged in providing image processing and enhancement software and medical devices, along with AI diagnostic tools for urology and gastroenterology.
