InVita Healthcare Technologies, DonorConnect, and Specialist Direct have introduced an interoperability solution that can automate the reporting of diagnostic tests for organ donation.

The new telepathology interface helps save critical hours and improve the safety of patients by replacing existing manual processes that are time-consuming and inefficient for organ procurement organisations (OPOs).

It is designed to streamline the organ evaluation process by providing real-time, secure delivery of biopsy results and source file attachments directly into InVita's electronic donor management system, iTransplant.

DonorConnect chief operating officer Chuck Zollinger said: “This collaboration will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of delivering organ biopsy information to transplant decision-makers, ultimately saving more lives through transplantation.

“We look forward to the positive impact this interoperability solution will have on those awaiting life-saving transplants, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in giving hope and healing lives through organ, tissue, and eye donation.”

The interoperability ensures that transplant centres receive kidney and liver biopsy results instantaneously through DonorConnect’s iTransplant System, complete with automated result notifications.

This innovation is crucial for transplant centres as it provides reliable information that is vital for organ evaluation and acceptance.

Specialist Direct's SDI Cloud transplant technology underpins this advancement by enabling the seamless exchange of diagnostic results between OPOs and transplant hospitals.

Special Direct founder and CEO Scott Rombach said: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with industry leaders InVita and DonorConnect on this mission-critical iTransplant integration initiative.

"Beginning with telepathology results, this interface will significantly improve operational efficiencies for the transplant ecosystem from both a speed and accuracy perspective.”
