FLASH radiotherapy medical device specialist, THERYQ and provider of upright radiotherapy solutions, Leo Cancer Care have teamed up to deliver FLASH radiotherapy into mainstream clinical practices.

The partnership promises to deliver faster, comfortable, and enhanced care to cancer therapy by combining both companies’ technology and expertise. FLASHDEEP, a FLASH radiotherapy device based on European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) technology, uses high energy electron (VHEE) radiation to treat cancers that are untreatable with traditional methods.

Stephen Towe, CEO of Leo Cancer Care, said: "FLASH has been one of the most exciting research areas within radiation therapy for a number of years now, so we are very excited to be partnering with THERYQ, helping them to bring FLASH radiotherapy into mainstream clinical practice."

FLASH therapy is a form radiation therapy that shows potential targeting cancer cells efficiently while reducing side effects from the treatment. It does this by producing high doses of radiation in a fraction of a second, minimising treatment time and damage to surrounding healthy tissues.

The first FLASHDEEP device was installed at The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) in Lausanne, Switzerland. Now the technology will incorporate Leo Cancer Cares upright patient positioning solution to reduce patient discomfort. It will also be integrated into the device at CHUV.

Ludovic Le Meunier, CEO of THERYQ said: "Together, we are pioneering the future of cancer treatment, where precision meets speed, and patients receive the best care possible. This collaboration reaffirms our commitment to advancing FLASH radiation therapy systems, bringing hope and healing to those in need."

On the 13th of July 2023 THERYQ launched a clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of FLASH radiotherapy in skin cancer subjects.

In 2022, RaySearch and Leo Cancer Care partnered up to integrate RayStation’s treatment planning system, with Leo Cancer Care’s upright radiation therapy technology.
