POWERbreathe International has launched the ActiBreathe breath training app, along with a smart adaptor to connect with existing POWERbreathe devices, including the Plus Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT), the EX1 Expiratory Muscle Training (EMT), and Shaker Deluxe mucus clearance devices.

Through the use of its breath training devices, the UK company’s new app enables users to measure the strength of their breathing muscles to better understand their respiratory capabilities and receive personalised training plans based on their unique respiratory needs.

The app includes real-time performance tracking, customised breathing training plans, and progress visualisation. According to POWERbreathe, its app is suitable for individuals ranging from those with medical conditions to professional athletes and people seeking to reduce blood pressure or enhance their overall health and fitness.

In 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended inspiratory muscle training (IMT) with devices such as those offered by POWERbreathe for individuals recovering from Covid-19.

Harry Brar, managing director of POWERbreathe International, commented: “Since introducing the first mechanical breathing trainer to the UK National Health Service (NHS) in the 1990s, our devices have changed the face of respiratory muscle training globally.

“With the launch of the Smart Adaptor and ActiBreathe App, we are taking another huge leap forward, merging decades of clinical research with cutting-edge technology to enable our customers to fully optimise and reap the benefits of breathing training.”

Dr Sabrina Brar, chief future officer at POWERbreathe, said: "The new features will help everyone to breathe better, particularly those training at a professional level, because the system acts as a ‘smart trainer’, providing the specific guidance needed to enhance respiratory muscle performance.”

According to POWERbreathe, the technology makes traditional mechanical breath training a more modern, connected experience, for users looking to gain insight into their respiratory health.
