Diagnostic imaging equipment distributor Probo Medical has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Alpha Source Group, a services provider for the North American healthcare market.

With the acquisition, Probo will be able to significantly broaden its diagnostic imaging solutions platform.

Alpha Source and its subsidiaries bring a wide range of services including technical field service, equipment refurbishment, and parts distribution.

Its subsidiaries comprise Alpha Source Biomed Solutions, BC Technical Imaging Solutions and Medical Optics Surgical Solutions.

Probo CEO Michael Asmer said: “This acquisition is transformational in nature for both Probo Medical and Alpha Source. Probo has built a scalable platform in the ultrasound market in North America, capable of supporting customers with ultrasound system sales, repairs, service, applications training, and spare parts at a quality and value level that leads the market.

“Integrating that proficiency with Alpha Source's technical capabilities will quickly allow us to expand parts harvest and distribution, scale system refurbishment and resale, and optimise our ability to deliver best-in-class field service with a global team of over 350 field service engineers.

“Combining all of that with Probo's capabilities around the logistics, storage and installation of diagnostic imaging systems makes this a combination that we are tremendously excited about.”

Founded in 1986, US-based Alpha Source offers solutions to OEMs, ISOs, asset managers, hospitals, distributors, and resellers.

The company is supported by its four Centers of Excellence in Salt Lake City, Utah; Jeffersonville, Indiana; Tamarac, Florida; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

These centres provide a variety of services including repair, refurbishment, and distribution of multi-modality medical equipment such as nuclear medicine, PET, CT, MRI, and ultrasound.

Probo Medical is supported by Avista Capital Partners, a private equity company focused on healthcare.
