Think Surgical has signed a limited exclusive distribution and supply agreement with medical technology company Zimmer Biomet.

As part of the agreement, Zimmer Biomet's technology will be integrated into a customised TMINI robotic solution for total knee arthroplasty, aiming to enhance surgical outcomes.

The agreement will enable Zimmer Biomet to exclusively offer the TMINI Miniature Robotic System, which is designed to be user-friendly and particularly well-suited for the ambulatory surgery centre (ASC) market.

Think Surgical president and CEO Stuart Simpson said: “We believe that there are two distinct customer segments, one which prefers an open platform where the customer can choose from a range of implants on the robot and another which prefers an exclusive platform where the customer gains access to the robot in return for loyalty to a single implant brand.

“To maximise access, we support both of those customer segments with two different business models. We have partnerships with approximately ten implant companies to provide an open solution and we have partnered with Zimmer Biomet, the market leader, to provide an exclusive solution.”

By working with its implant partners, Think Surgical will continue to sell the TMINI System as an open platform technology. This allows surgeons to choose from a range of implant options for their patients.

Think Surgical chief commercial officer Chris Fronk said: “With our current implant partners, we are excited to support about 40% of the total knee implants on the market today.

“Looking to the future, because Think Surgical’s technology is capable of supporting all total knee implant brands, we expect to continue to expand market coverage by adding additional implant brands.”

In February this year, Think Surgical announced a collaboration agreement with b-ONE Ortho.

This collaboration is intended to add the b-ONE Ortho implants, including the MOBIO Total Knee System, to Think Surgical’s ID-HUB data bank of implant modules for use with its TMINI Miniature Robotic System.
