Hearing instruments maker Sonion has entered into a strategic partnership with wearable biometric sensor technology company Valencell to develop biometrics sensors for hearables and hearing health markets.

As part of the alliance, Valencell will supply biometric sensor modules designed for hearables and wearables, which will be optimised by Sonion in terms of size, power consumption and cost to ensure in-ear and on-ear applications.

It is expected that Sonion’s expertise in manufacturing miniaturised components for ear-based devices will lead to significant decrease in the required factors for functionalities into ear-level medical devices.

The companies will primarily work on the design, development and manufacturing of biometric sensing ear modules to cater to the medical, hearing health, professional communications and consumer markets.

Sonion will launch a variety of sensor modules for different applications in the ear and Valencell will further expand its advanced, accurate biometric sensor portfolio.
