With more than 25 years of experience in low pressure plasma and engineering coatings and treatments, Europlasma is one of the world leaders in Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition (PECVD) applications.

Europlasma supplies a wide range of chemistries, including fluorochemistries such as PlasmaGuard, Nanofics 110 free from PFOA and Nanofics 120 containing PFOA. The company also offers non-fluorochemistries that include Nanofics 10 and custom designs.

We employ some of the world’s foremost experts on PECVD and are recognised for our commitment towards innovation and continuous improvement.

Activation and ultra-fine cleaning of catheters, guide wires and medical plastics

Europlasma has extensive knowledge in fine cleaning of hydrophobic and hydrophilic biocompatible coatings, as well as medical devices.

The application assures a cost-effective and clean process. Due to the high energy level of plasma, the structure of chemical or organic substances can be selectively broken down on the material’s surface. Through ultrafine cleaning, unwanted substances can be entirely removed from the most sensitive of services, resulting in the optimal prerequisite for later coating or medical use.

Even the smallest dust particles from plastics can be removed through micro-fine plasma cleaning, which can at first adhere firmly to the surfaces as a result of the additives. The plasma causes particles to detach entirely from the substrate. Through the use of the chemical-physical reaction in the nano range, high-quality surfaces can be achieved.

Hydrophilic and hydrophobic coatings for the medical industry

Europlasma specialises in two types of coatings for the medical industry – hydrophobic and hydrophilic. Our hydrophobic coatings provide anticorrosion, antifouling and water-repelling effects. Furthermore, our barrier coatings are fully halogen and fluorine-free.

Our hydrophilic coatings are utilised to reduce friction as a result of their stiction, mow friction and lubricity on guide wires, catheters and stents, while also acting as a biocompatibility coating. Our hydrophilic coating is applied to textile to wrap organs for implants and transplants to prevent rejection.

Seamless integration in the manufacturing process

Our coatings are z-axis conductive, ultra-thin and do not necessitate masking of electrical contact points, allowing for a flexible and fast production process, which can be applied on an industrial scale at an acceptable cost.

Environmental benefits

In comparison to wet chemical processing, our low pressure plasma nano-coating has notable environmental benefits, such as a decrease in the intake of coating chemicals, as the layer applied to reach functionality is far thinner, as well as a 100 per cent reduction in water consumption due to a completely dry plasma process.

Furthermore, there is also a 50 per cent decrease in energy expenditure, as no curing steps are needed to dry out the process water.

About Europlasma

We have a developing portfolio of more than 120 patents.

Our business model comes from a technology licensing agreement, which sets the terms for long-term cooperation with the client. The purchase of the machine and process chemicals, as well as preventive maintenance, are included.

Europlasma engineers work alongside each client to attain the best possible coating result on specific products. We also work to integrate the technology within particular production lines.
