Maxwell provides ultracapacitors for cost-effective energy storage and power delivery solutions for delivery of rapid bursts of power for numerous applications. Maxwell is the leading developer and manufacturer of innovative, cost-effective energy storage and power delivery solutions and helps to change the way energy is stored all over the world.
Available in a range of sizes and modular configurations, Maxwell’s BOOSTCAP® ultracapacitors bring new levels of efficiency and power to everything from consumer electronics to hybrid vehicles and renewable energy sources.
Ultracapacitor cells for uninterruptable power supplies
Maxwell’s BOOSTCAP ultracapacitor cells and multi-cell packs and modules provide safe and highly reliable energy storage and power delivery solutions for applications in multiple industries, including uninterruptable power supplies (UPS), automotive, transportation, renewable energy, consumer and industrial electronics and telecommunications.
Energy storage devices
Maxwell’s ultracapacitors are energy storage devices that possess a unique combination of high power density, extremely long operational life and the ability to charge and discharge very rapidly.
Long-life ultracapacitors
Maxwell’s proprietary electrode and global manufacturing facilities allow us to deliver unsurpassed value, keeping costs down while tailoring performance to specific applications. Our ultracapacitors have a demonstrated lifespan of one million recharge cycles, even in extreme environments, or ten years’ DC lifetime at room temperature, reducing maintenance costs and adding value to other power sources.
All Maxwell Technologies ultracapacitors are capable of accepting charges at the identical rate of discharge, ensuring an ideal solution for virtually any application.
Alternative energy storage devices
Ultracapacitors, also known as electric double-layer capacitors or supercapacitors, are alternative energy storage devices which store energy by electrostatically (physically) separating positive and negative charges. This is in contrast to batteries which store energy via orbital electron exchange (chemically). The lack of chemical reaction within permits ultracapacitors to be charged and discharged up to one million times (compared with hundreds or thousands of charge / discharge cycles in batteries) and at a faster rate than batteries.
Ultracapacitors can capture and store braking energy in trains, trams, trucks and automobiles, releasing it on demand. They can deliver peak power for drive systems and actuators in a variety of vehicles, and ensure around-the-clock power availability for wind turbine pitch systems. The possibilities are almost endless.
Environmentally friendly energy storage devices
Maxwell Technologies BOOSTCAP ultracapacitors are an ideal source of back-up and pulse power. They can provide extended power availability, allowing critical information and functions to remain available during dips, sags and outages in a power supply or battery change. Working in tandem with a complementary power source such as fuel cells, lithium ion batteries, or grid power, ultracapacitors supply energy in peak power demand conditions, reducing strain on the primary power source.
With a cycle life of one million cycles, Maxwell Technologies BOOSTCAP ultracapacitors can be rapidly charged and discharged over and over again, making them one of the most energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and cost-effective ways to store energy.
Modular ultracapacitors
By linking multiple cells in a single module, Maxwell Technologies ultracapacitors can meet or exceed the storage and power needs of demanding applications. These modules provide a cost-effective solution for UPS, telecommunications, automotive, transportation, and a variety of other applications, reliably performing through more than one million recharge cycles.
Ultracapacitor heavy-duty transportation modules
In addition to our standard modules, we also offer speciality products tailored to the critical requirements of specific applications. Our heavy-duty transportation modules (HTM) deliver the performance, reliability and serviceability that the transportation industry commands and can easily be integrated into trucks, buses and other utility vehicles and equipment.
