Nicolay develops products for non-invasive patient monitoring, including customisable medical cables, connectors and cable assemblies.
Fully shielded ECG and EEG cable systems
ECG and EEG cable systems used by Nicolay hold defibrillation protection according to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and are fully shielded.
The high-quality systems are flexible, robust and can be customised and adapted to suit client requirements.
System versions include:
- Three-lead, five-lead, six-lead and ten lead configuration
- 6in and 4in, 7in and 3in lead configuration
- Single Patient Use (SPU) leadset (three-lead and five-lead)
Nicolay’s wide range of instrument plugs and sockets include basic and mini versions. Both versions have customer specific keying and various colours available.
The basic version includes ten, 12 and 20 poles, while the mini version has seven and 12 poles. All plugs and sockets provide strain-relief using straight, 45° and 90° exits to enhance bending cycle performance.
Cable diameters are available from 3mm to 8.2mm and wiring of connectors, as well shielding are available on request. Operation temperature of plugs and sockets range from -40°C to 85°C.
Instrument plugs and connectors
The company provides a range of instrument plugs and connectors for optimal solutions to address patient needs.
A range of versions are available including basic, which comes in ten, 12 and 20 poles and mini versions such as mini7 and mini12.
All plugs and connectors have strain reliefs with straight, 45° and 90° exits for cables, with a diameter of 3mm-8.2mm for basic models, and 3mm-5.5mm for mini versions.
Nicolay’s potting and foaming technology for over-moulded versions allows high-packing density at high electrical strength and robustness.
All plugs have bend relief geometry to enhance bending cycle performance, and are available with customer specific keying.
Benefits of the plugs and connectors include flexible adaptation to specific applications, and an ideal fit to cable systems and instrument sockets, which feature a panel mount with solder pins, and straight or 90° version outlet.
The mini12 connector-system is a small interface for medical devices, based on technical standards of seven and 12 pole round plugs for a reliable connection.
The system comprises a plug and a mating instrument socket for best possible fit, and is available for board mount connection for a straight or 90° version.
Soldered connections for copper-leads are also available.
Robust electro-surgical handles
The company’s electro-surgical handle is one of the most robust products on the market.
The handle is available in the following versions:
- 2.4mm and 4.0mm electrode shaft diameter
- Two push-buttons
- Base design and existing tooling
- Standard and customised connections for the instrument
- Design adaption
- Tooling costs for customisations only
- Easier market access for applications with low volumes
Characteristics include:
- Switching insert fully silicone encapsulated
- Auto-clavable according to IEC 601-1 / 44.7
- Temperature range from -40°C, up to 140°C
- Electric strength: 10kV according to IEC 601
Sensors for measuring SpO2
The SpO2 Sensor was developed by Nicolay with HP in 1988.
The water-proof sensor is made out of silicone, with fully encapsulated opto-electronic components, cable channels and a customised design of the connection to the pulse oximeter.
Benefits of the sensor include low lifecycle costs, easy application and cleaning for enhanced user comfort, and optimal adaptation to finger shapes.
Design and manufacturing of various cables and plugs without tooling costs is carried out at Nicolay.
Customisation is available, including cable length, and mechanical coding of plugs and colour. The sensor is lighter than other models with improved air circulation and a symmetric design.
Nicolay offers finger and ear pulse sensors for cardio applications. The thin, flexible leads have an individual connection to the device and combined pulse collection on the fingers and ears, ensuring flexible use.
Customisable special process technology
Special process technology includes 2K: LSR / PUR-jacket, polyimide-foil / LSR flex board, metal inserts and multi-soft inserts.
The company holds DIN EN ISO: 13485 certification, DIN ISO: 14001 certification and complies with Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
Nicolay also fulfills IEC 60601-ff, Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and internal tests.
Products are supervised during development from testing of initial samples, up to series production. Final testing includes electrical, visual and functional checks.
In-house production of thin, flexible cables
Nicolay’s range of high-quality tools include moulding and stamping tools, as well as shielding plates, which are made in the company’s in-house blanking shop.
The company also produces first prototypes and release samples, according to client requirements. In-house production of specific solutions and thin, highly flexible special cables are DIN ISO: 9001 certified.
The outer diameter of the cable is available up to 10mm, as well as copper strands from American Wire Gauge (AWG) 44 up to AWG 18.
