Medical device manufacturing is increasing in Asia, driven by demands from the healthcare sector, increasing numbers of patients suffering from chronic conditions, and an expanding research environment. GlobalData’s APAC Medical Devices Industry Landscape 2022 report forecasts annual sales reaching $225bn by 2030 as the region continues to advance.
There are currently 2,200 medical devices in development in Asia, with GlobalData estimating the approval of more than 500 over the next 12 months. The uses of these pipeline products vary, but in-vitro diagnostic devices make up the largest portion, followed by cardiovascular, general surgery, and neurology devices.

This aligns with wider healthcare trends in the wider APAC region, which recorded the highest number of clinical trials in 2023 according to GlobalData’s annual scorecard. China led globally, joined by two other Asian nations in the top five, which were India and South Korea. India and Thailand also recorded table-topping expenditures on medical tourism in 2023, indicating the countries’ international clinical reputations.

One event highlighting healthcare innovation is Medical Manufacturing Asia. The event will be held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, bringing together upstream and downstream producers to showcase some of the innovations taking place across the industry.
